Microsoft started rolling out Windows 10 Mobile to Lumia devices this week, but unfortunately, some of the old devices will not get the update as earlier promised by the company.

Initially, the Tech Giant had assured users that all Lumia Windows Phones operating on Windows 8 would get upgraded to Windows 10. However, as the roll out of the new Windows operating system ensued, the company revealed that some handsets like the Lumia 1020, Lumia 520, and Lumia 920 will remain stuck on Windows Phone 8, Neowin reported.

The official list of supported Lumia models includes Lumia 1520, Lumia 930, Lumia 830, Lumia 730, Lumia 735, Lumia 640, Lumia 640XL, Lumia 635 1GB, Lumia 636 1GB, Lumia 638 1GB, Lumia 540, Lumia 535, Lumia 532, Lumia 435, and Lumia 430. The list seemingly highlights the most capable devices considering that Windows 10 Mobile requires more resources than the previous OS.

Given that some Lumia phones are quite old, it is not surprising that Microsoft is not going to support them. But then again, it is disappointing that some of the devices which received the preview OS version will get eventually left out.

Above and beyond the OS, Microsoft has also ditched the Lumia Icon and Blu's Win JR LTE. The company says that the Lumia Icon may still get upgraded, but there will be no second wave of Windows 10 Mobile updates for the other devices.

This means that Blu's Win JR LTE is already out of the list. The Win JR LTE is a phone that Microsoft has continually promoted as a fully compatible Windows 10 device. Recently, Microsoft secretly removed a reference to its Store page which went "upgradeable to Windows 10 when available" for the Win JR LTE, and this has annoyed owners who bought the handset.

According to Ms Power User, Windows Phone enthusiasts are not certainly angry for the lack of he updates for their owned devices. Rather, it is because of Microsoft's empty promises.

It can be noted that initially, Windows 7 handsets were also never upgraded to Windows Phone 8, and the company set the prospect that history would never repeat itself. The promise has again been broken and is bad news for the Windows Mobile operating system, which is on the verge of extinction.
