A video of Michigan students verbally abusing an Uber driver in Ann Arbor has gone viral through the wire. Uploaded on YouTube on March 23, the clip records events of March 20, which currently has over 600k views and folks at University has finally taken the notice, saying that they are "extremely disappointed" by demeaning behavior of the students.
The viral video depicts a few Michigan University students, now recognized as members of a U-M fraternity group, calling names on Uber driver Artur Zawada, who filmed the entire rant and posted on his YouTube account, BuzzFeed reported. One of the students in black jacket took out his phone and started recording back Zawada as he continued to utter inappropriate words.
The students used extremely slang phrases like "You little f**k," "you little piece of s**t," and "Go f**k yourself." However, Zawada did not respond to them immediately, but he later filed a complaint with the police against the students.
Sergeant Aimee Metzer Ann Arbor Police told the news site that the Uber Driver had filed a case accusing that he was verbally abused by Uber passengers on March 20. Zawada later explained to The Tab that he had driven these customers before, also ending up with the similar fate. "They were looking for trouble. They were hoping I would lose my cool," Uber driver told the news network."
A U-M fraternity spokesperson told BuzzFeed that campus officials had seen the video and their dean of students has talked with both the Uber driver and the students. He added that they were "extremely disappointed" by the behavior of their students and no one deserves to be treated with such disrespect.
The man in black coat was later identified by campus newspaper as Jack Croman, son of Steven Croman, who rich real estate dealer in NYC. However, U-M fraternity group Tau Kappa Epsilon's chief information officer Alex baker had not yet named Croman, but according to BuzzFeed, he did say that they are still investigating and the responsible individuals could be expulsed of membership.
In subsequent updates on the story, the news site reported that Croman had responded, saying that he regretted his words and behavior, but the viral video missed the part where the Uber driver had made a number of "anti-Semitic remarks" which provoked him to such a reaction. He also filed a complaint against the driver while Zawada has denied the allegations. The case is currently under instigation by the police.
