Game developer and publisher, Square Enix, won it big time at this week's Famitsu Weekly chart for the most expected games in Japan. The company took in the top four slots, mostly likely because of the excitement surrounding "Final Fantasy XV" emanating from a very successful 'Uncovered' event, which has had some significant effect for Square Enix in general.
However, "Final Fantasy XV" could not beat the true juggernaut of Japan. Now, the most wanted game in Japan, based on the list, is "Dragon Quest XI" for Nintendo 3DS.
The game publisher initially shared some information about "Dragon Quest XI" during its Dragon Quest 30th Anniversary Project Presentation on Jan. 13. According to Gematsu, series creator Yuji Horii pointed out that the story of the game is almost done and the first part is playable.
However, the game will take some time because of its volume. Horii expects the game to release in the series' 30th anniversary year, which the unification producer Ryutaro Ichimura projects to be between May 27, 2016 and May 27, 2017.
Back to the Famitsu listing, "Final Fantasy XV" trailed "Dragon Quest XI" by just over 10 votes. The game was followed at a distance by "Final Fantasy 7 Remake." "Dragon Quest XI" PS4 version came next, before "Persona 5" closed the top list at number 5.
Atlus should start showing more of "Persona 5" if they want to sustain the generally high levels of hype and goodwill they have enjoyed since the game's original launch in 2013, according to GamingBolt. "Kingdom Hearts III," which is another highly anticipated title in Japan, came in at number 8.
From the list, Nintendo as well receives a leg in since "The Legend of Zelda" finally entered the charts at the 10th position. Normally, console "Zelda" games do not perform well in Japan. As a result, it is a great surprise for "Zelda" to enjoy a high level of anticipation in the region.
It is likely that the Wii U game "The Legend of Zelda" will change Japan's indifference towards the series. Watch the clip below for more information.
