The Coalition has made it official that the upcoming Xbox One shooter "Gear of War 4" will include microtransactions. Therefore, gamers will buy crates full of cards that have different levels of rarity, and provide cosmetic changes in-game.

The information comes through an interview with GameSpot, when the studio head Rod Fergusson revealed that none of the components will affect the gameplay. He also explained why cards specifically were chosen.

The Coalition head said, "I feel like that paradigm of cards is really clear to understand for collectibles, like the ability to collect things. We had weapon skins and character skins, so that idea of collecting cards is just easily understood."

Fergusson added that he like the notion of why players purchase "Magic: The Gathering" booster pack. As long as he buys the only card he wants then he is done, and others will definitely lose it.

The upcoming game is not the first one in the "Gear of War" franchise to include the option of in-game purchases. "Gear of War 3" and last year's "Ultimate Edition" had purchasable weapon skins.

With regard to the appeal of collectible card mechanic, Fergusson drew comparisons to Blizzard's own collectible card game, "Hearthstone." In addition, the studio head emphasized that such purchases would depend on the player, and that the same packs could be earned by playing through the game.

Fergusson added that he believes the development team owes the gamers that feeling they can get just like it was the case with "Hearthstone." The game gave players a glow, the voice and excitement to want to open packs and be part of the engagement. With such an experience, players would always want to complete one quest and move to the next level.

"Gear of War 4" will launch on Xbox One in October, although players will not have to wait for long before giving the game a whirl since the multiplayer beta starts on April 18, according to a different report by the same publication. Microsoft unveiled a short video displaying new combat from the game. The latest video follows several other teasers that featured other executions like the one that revealed "Unicorn-ing," which is a move that involves stabbing an enemy in the forehead with a knife.
