Prince' sister Tyka Nelson and his five half siblings have initiated the court proceeding to divide the late music icon's $300 million fortune. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman has stepped forward claiming she is also entitled to a part of the late pop star's multimillion-dollar estate, since she is the late singer's long-lost sister.
The woman, whose name is Darcell Gresham Johnston, has filed court documents on April 29 to claim that she is also entitled to get a part of the late pop star's multimillion-dollar estate. Inside sources told TMZ that Johnston is claiming that she and Prince have the same mother, jazz singer Mattie Shaw.
Some of Prince's siblings reportedly learned of Johnston's existence only several days ago. The judge overseeing the case will decide how she will be recognized and treated. It was expected earlier that the estate will be equally split in six ways, between Prince's known surviving siblings under Minnesota law.
Meanwhile, Nelson and four of Prince's five half siblings met in court on May 2, Monday, for a hearing about the estate. Reports stated that Bremer Trust has been appointed as a special administrator and instructed to determine whether there are additional heirs or not.
"None of us has a crystal ball," People quoted the judge as saying. "We don't know what claims will be made, but we will address those as they come."
Prince died suddenly on April 21 at his Paisley Park estate outside Minneapolis. He was 57. Although the exact cause of Prince's death is still unknown, and investigators are examining whether he died of an opioid overdose.
Meanwhile, inside reports suggest that Prince was struggling with drug abuse during his last days. As a matter of fact, the late singer's team contacted drug addiction specialist, Dr Howard Kornfeld, to immediately start his treatment. It was hoped that the late singer would agree to go to California for long term care at Kornfeld's Recovery Without Walls clinic in Mill Valley.
Since Korfeld could not go on April 21, he reportedly sent his son Paisley Park with plans to follow later. In fact, his son was the one who made the frantic 911 call to report about Prince's condition.
