British automobile brand Jaguar Land Rover, which is currently owned by India's Tata Motors, is gearing up to launch smartphones and accessories in association with the consumer electronics company Bullitt Group by early 2017. This is in an endeavor to get a share of the burgeoning global smartphone market.

This is, however, not the first effort by any automotive company to expand its presence in the smartphone market. Earlier, luxury auto manufacturers like Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, as well as Bentley have made attempts to sell branded smartphones, but they failed to find a market for them. Their devices were very highly priced, lacked any spectacular specs and did not come in numbers that would have helped them to succeed in the global market.

Integrating the classical pioneering design and technology of Land Rover into the mobile phone sector along with Bullitt Group offers a thrilling challenge and incredible prospect to take the brand into a new height, an official statement issued by Lindsay Weaver, director of Licensing and Branded Goods at Jaguar Land Rover, said.

According to the statement, a team of engineers and designers from Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations enter into a partnership with Bullitt Group to offer a number of bespoke applications customized to Land Rover brand and product values.

It is worth noting here that Land Rover itself will not make or assemble the actual phone, but will simply lend their name and contributing to the final product. However, as of now, nothing is known about the specifications of the Land Rover smartphone. However, is it expected that the purported device will run on an Android version, Livemint reported.

Instead of Land Rover, Bullitt will be developing the gadgets for Land Rover smartphone. Earlier, Bullitt made rugged custom devices for companies like JCB, Caterpillar, and Ministry of Sound. A partnership with Bullitt would, therefore, suggest that the purported smartphone will match the reputation of Land Rover of making tough and rugged cars.

According to Bullitt Group CEO Peter Stephens, they are confident that the new range of products will absolutely summarize all things that Land Rover represents, and will appeal to people who already love the brand, in addition to providing an introduction to people who have not discovered it yet,
