Bad news for the fans of the drama comedy TV series "Limitless," as the show has been officially cancelled. The cancellation was confirmed by one of the show's executive producer Craig Sweeny.

It was just in April 26 when "Limitless" concluded its first season with a two-part season finale episode. Since then, fans have been wondering whether the show will be renewed for another season, but it seems that no "Limitless" Season 2 will be produced because Sweeny posted on his twitter account that the series is officially over, Hollywood Reporter reported.

Before Sweeny's announcement, the president of CBS, Glenn Geller, released a statement saying that the producers of the series were offering other networks to acquire the second installment of "Limitless." The same publication cited that among the chosen networks were Amazon and Netflix; however, it is said that the two networks declined the offer to acquire "Limitless" Season 2.

On the other hand, it can be recalled that the success of the 2011 "Limitless" film paved the way for a reboot on the small screen. The movie was a box office hit, grossing more than $161 million with a budget of only $27 million. It starred Bradley Cooper as Edward Morra, an aspiring author who struggles in writing his first book, but later on managed to be impressively intelligent with the help of the NZT-48 drug that helps a person to fully use the capacity of his brain.

According to Variety, the series managed to be on top during its first episodes, but later on failed to capture the interest of enough viewers. It was also reported that its average TV rating in the 18-49 category was only 2.4.

As of the moment, there is still no official statement relating to the reason behind the cancellation. Despite of that, speculations are loud that it was caused by the show's poor ratings, and that it was said to be below its competitors.
