Produced by "Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams, "God Particle" is one of the upcoming films that will feature a highly diverse cast. Recently, Zhang Ziyi joined the cast of the sci-fi thriller set to be released on Feb. 24, 2017.

Zhang will play a member of the international team of astronauts and scientists up in space in "God Particle," according to Hollywood Reporter. The sci-fi thriller is written by Oren Uziel and directed by Julius Onah.

With Abrams as producer, Tommy Harper will serve as executive producer in "God Particle." Joining Zhang in the cast are David Oyelowo, Chris O'Dowd, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, John Krasinski and Daniel Bruhl.

Both Oyelowo and Mbatha-Raw are English actors. The former is of Nigerian descent while the latter is English-South African.

O'Dowd is Irish while Krasinski is of American, Polish and Irish descent. On the other hand, Bruhl's father is a German TV director born in Brazil while his mother is Spanish.

So far, Zhang is the only Asian actor in the cast. The award-winning Chinese actress is represented by Ziffren Brittenham, ICM Partners and Mosaic.

Among her many film characters, Zhang is known for her roles in the films "House of Flying Daggers," "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," "Memoirs of a Geisha," "The Legend of Zu," "Sophie's Revenge," "The Grandmaster," "My Wife is a Gangster 2," "Rush Hour 2," "The Crossing," "Where's the Dragon," "Run For Love" and "The Wasted Times." In "Rush Hour 2," she worked with Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker and Brett Ratner, who recently went back home in Miami Beach, Miami.com reported.  

In 2006, Zhang was nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globe Awards for her performance in "Memoirs of a Geisha" along with "North Country" actress Charlize Theron, "Proof" actress Gwyneth Paltrow and "A History of Violence" actress Maria Bello. They all lost to "Transamerica" actress Felicity Huffman.

In March 2015, Zhang married Chinese rock artist and "The Voice of China" coach Wang Feng. She gave birth to their daughter Wang Xingxing on Dec. 27, 2015.
