"The Originals" Season 3 finale ended with a cliffhanger that saw Hayley and Hope carting the Mikaelson brood out of New Orleans, in search for a cure that could save them from eternal demise. As to where "The Originals" Season 4 will pick up, there are rumors that a major time jump will take place.

In the Season 3 ender, the Mikaelson family no longer has control over New Orleans after an improvised Marcel takes over. According to popular theory, the only person powerful enough to fight Marcel is Hayley and Klaus' daughter Hope. When viewers last saw Hope, she was still a baby and her powers may not have fully developed yet.

The situation makes it likely for a time jump to take place in "The Originals" Season 4. The show will most probably move forward to a time when Hope is already a big kid, or at least reaching an age where her powers begin to grow stronger.

"It's almost mandatory that there be some sort of time jump," "The Originals" executive producer Michael Narducci told TV Line. "Hayley and Marcel are both going to have to start from scratch as he decides how he's going to deal all these new vampires in town."

Narducci confirmed that time jump in a separate interview with TV Guide, stating it will "be similar to what the audience is feeling" and that it will actually make sense. He also revealed that while Hayley is in charge of finding a cure for Elijah, Rebakah, Kol and Freya, someone else might save Klaus.

"Maybe there's some other person that's going to get Klaus out. Maybe Klaus will get himself out," Narducci hinted. "Maybe someone is going to decide that there's a big problem in the world and Klaus Mikaelson is the only person that can help us deal with it."

What's certain is that, after the time jump in "The Originals" Season 4, there is going to be a reunion of sorts of the characters. The original vampires are going to awaken from their pain-induced slumber and they are obviously not happy about what was done to them.

"The Originals" Season 4 will return to The CW in 2017.
