Mariah Carey got engaged to Australian billionaire James Packer in January. The proposal took place in New York and a 35-carat diamond ring sealed the engagement of the couple.
Carey and Packer expressed their wish to get married this year. But it seems this will not happen as Nick Cannon does not want to sign the divorce papers that would finalized and make his separation from the pop diva official.
Cannon and Carey called it quits in 2014, six years after their secret wedding in Windermere Island in the Bahamas. Several months after the separation, Carey moved on and started to date Packer. Although she is now engaged and preparing for her marriage, it appears that things would be difficult since she is still legally married to Cannon.
According to TMZ, Carey had been pleading with her ex-husband to cooperate and sign the documents but he just keeps beating around the bush and will not say why. Many find this strange because it was Cannon who filed for divorce in the first place.
It is said that the reason for his refusal was regret. The rapper had a change of heart and does not want to let go of his ex-wife now.
Carey is piqued as she would like to move forward with Packer and Cannon is getting in the way. She had also settled everything with ex-hubby already - including the joint custody of their 5-year-old twins and property - yet the divorce is not taking effect due to the lack of his signature.
If the divorce could be finalized, Carey and Packer will hold an intimate wedding ceremony where only close friends and family would be invited, Australian Women's Weekly has learned. This will be the pair's third marriage as Packer also divorced his second wife model/singer Erica Baxter in 2013.
Moreover, once the couple finally wed, they will be taking care of five children. Carey has twins Moroccan and Monroe while Packer has three kids namely Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle.
The pop diva has clearly moved on and already found her new man but it is not the same with Cannon as he is still single until now. He was reported to have been seen with model Winnie Harlow last year but apparently, the rendezvous did not bloom into romance.
