"Empire" season 3 will continue to feature Morocco Omari's Tariq in its upcoming episodes.
In the finale episode for season 2, Tariq resurfaced and informed Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) that he is his brother.
A shocked Lucious didn't expect to hear such a huge revelation that he wasn't able to respond to him.
In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Ilene Chaiken said that Tariq and Lucious will battle against each other because the former believes that he is the good guy and the latter is the bad guy.
However, Lucious doesn't agree that his brother is a good man and this will cause tension between the two of them.
"Tariq thinks he's a good guy - and that Lucious is a bad guy. But Lucious, of course, doesn't see it that way at all. Tariq is very motivated, and he has a very personal grievance against Lucious. He's not just a fed who wants to make his bones taking down Lucious Lyon - he's Lucious's half-brother," Chaiken said.
The exec added that Tariq's backstory will be unveiled in "Empire" season 3 and fans will have the opportunity to find out why he's so angry with Lucious.
"We'll peel away layers of his story and learn why he's coming so hard after Lucious. Hopefully, the last scene of the finale gave you a taste of that - that he has a real bone to pick with Lucious," she added.
With this, there are some ongoing speculations that Tariq will also try to win the heart of Lucious' estranged wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson).
In last season's finale, Cookie was devastated over Lucious' decision to suddenly tie the knot with Anika (Grace Gealey). Even though Lucious explained that he was just doing it to help Anika, Cookie told him that she's done with him.
With this, Cookie's heart is utterly broken and weak and Tariq's presence could certainly help her move on from Lucious. In return, Tariq will also be able to hurt his half-brother back and this is what he's been meaning to do since the beginning.
"Empire" season 3 will premiere on FOX sometime this year.
