One of the scenes in the season finale titled "The Winds of Winter" that shocked many "Game of Thrones" fans was when Chapman's character Tommen stepped out of the window to commit suicide. The young king decided to take his own life after witnessing the wildfire blast that claimed the life of his wife and other people. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor shared that they filmed the suicide scene around 50 times.

He recounted that he was asked to jump on a thick crash mat from a short height that reached up to his chest area. Despite the short distance of the fall, he shared that his face got bruised up because of the multiple times that he had to do the scene. Chapman mentioned that it was emotionally terrible for him having to do Tommen's suicide scene several times. The actor also stated that he felt sad having to say goodbye to his character, whom he described was like an old friend.

Chapman took on the role of Cersei Lannister's (Lena Headey) son in 2013. His character went on to become the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms in Season 5 of the "Games of Thrones." Despite the immense power that comes with the position, the young king has not ruled his kingdom in his own way and ended up following what other people tell him to do. There is also a prophecy surrounding Tommen as foretold by Maggy the Frog where all of Cersei's children will get killed.

The actor commented that Tommen's death may push Headey's character towards the edge of madness, as indicated in the same report. He speculated that Cersei may end up spilling more blood in her quest for power. Chapman even mentioned that Tommen's mother may end up ruining everything and making things worse. "I reckon that politically, she won't do the role [of queen] justice," the actor stated.

Headey also echoed a similar sentiment in an interview with E!News. The actress stated that Tommen's death has left her character an empty woman who may be slightly crazed. She described Cersei as a woman who has become more dangerous given her rise to the throne and her son's death.
