The news came to light when the official website of Shokugeki no Sōma: Ni no Sara (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate) announced the anime series' home video release plans on June 27, Monday. According to its website, the series will have seven Blu-ray Disc volumes, which will contain two episodes each, aside for the seventh volume that will apparently just contain one.

The news came as a blow to some viewers, considering that the series' first season aired for 24 episodes from May to September 2015. Nonetheless, the series will premiere in Japan on July 2 on Tokyo MX at 10:00 PM and on MBS at 2:28 AM on the following day.

Much to the delight of fans, the show will also air on Animax and BS11. Fans across the globe will also see the return of lead voice actors - Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Risa Taneda, Minami Takahashi, Junichi Suwabe, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Natsuki Hanae, Saori Onishi, Chinatsu Akasaki and Hiroki Yasumoto - who will all reprise their respective roles in the upcoming season.

Other than the aforementioned voice actors, Hiroki Yasumoto is joining the cast as Subaru Mimasaka, a 92nd Totsuki Generation student of the Tōtsuki Culinary Academy, Anime News Network reported. Dubbed as King of Stalkers, Mimasaka's most notable quality is his attention to detail.

As previously reported, the said upcoming character is savage and barbarous, as Mimasaka revels in breaking the spirits of his adversaries by mimicking their cooking styles and propensities. Mimasaka is said to hold a 99 back-to-back win streak in a Shokugeki battle, not until he challenged Sōma Yukihira.

With director Yoshitomo Yonetani helming the project, speculations are rife that the second season will presumably revolve around Soma's voyage during his stay in the Tōtsuki Culinary Academy. The series' protagonist is expected to further enhance and develop his cooking techniques, as he is always tested by his notorious schoolmates to a various cooking duel.
