Stefan may be facing a formidable threat in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, alongside finding a way to save Damon and Enzo from the evil creature that has turned them into ravenous killing machines.
According to TV Line, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will introduce a new character named Sybil, who is described as "an immortal who uses her immeasurable power and influence to control other people, manipulating them into twisted games and tests for her own amusement and glorification."
While Sybil appears to be a very powerful character, her true intentions will be unveiled as Season 8 moves forward. When Sybil appears in the first episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, it won't be clear yet if she's a friend or foe. However, given the show's fondness of sympathetic villains, it's safe to say that she could be both good and bad.
Interestingly, fans are speculating that Sybil may be the main big bad in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, and that she could be the creature inside the vault, or at least connected to that monster in some way or form.
What's certain in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is that Stefan and the gang will fight to save Damon and Enzo from being eternally possessed by the creature they encountered in the vault.
This concept of dehumanizing the characters is a familiar territory for the show. Stefan, Caroline and Bonnie were once consumed by darkness as well, and the only way they got out of the dark side was through an emotional anchor. Among the other options listed by TV Line, Stefan is Damon's likely savior. Stefan saving his brother would fix the rough patch their relationship went through all throughout Season 7.
Fans are also not ruling out the possibility of having Elena saving Damon from eternal damnation in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Rumor has it that Nina Dobrev is slated to make a comeback in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, and her primary mission is to bring back Damon. "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Julie Plec previously teased having Dobrev back on the show, and it's all in perfect timing.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will premiere on Oct. 21 on The CW.
