The third issue of marvel comic book, "Civil War II,"s has taken a drastic step and killed off a major character, that is, the Hulk.

With this event, writer Michael Bendis has come under attack, but looks like he was readying for it. He made headlines a few days back when he replaced Iron Man in "Invincible Iron Man" with a 15-year-old black female. And therefore, the death of the heavyweight has not ruffled him.

In his justification, Bendis has said that fans may be outraged and probably 'Hawkeye' writers, whom he is very good friends with, will also be offended, states Gizmodo. But everything that happens in this third issue is in character. He categorically pointed out that when the readers discover the whys, wheres and hows, they will be convinced.

Notably, in the third issue of the comic book, Avenger Hawkeye kills Bruce Banner, the original Hulk. He shoots an arrow straight through Banner's skull because he thinks that Banner will turn into the Hulk and wreak massive havoc. But the interesting thing is that the issue also reveals what led to the shooting.

It says that Hawkeye did so because Banner requested him to. According to New York Daily News, the latter had recently given him the special arrow and asked him to resort to mercy killing in case of disaster. He made the request despite the fact that he was medicating his anger management and had been successful in his efforts, over the past years.

Well, the death of the Hulk is certainly shocking for his fans, but it is not the first time that a major character has been killed in the Marvel and DC Universe. In the 1970s, Jean Grey took her own life and later Peter Parker was killed when Spider-Man's alter ego was swapped with the consciousness of Dr. Octopus.

The dead have returned and thus, Hulk is not gone forever. There is still hope and Bendis has also said that he cannot speak for the future. He categorically stated- "who knows what will happen." And that gives fans enough hope for a comeback of the Green Goliath.
