Seagate has just revealed the 10 TB Barracuda Pro, and it is the largest consumer hard drive ever made. The latest hard drive is aimed at PC gamers and enthusiasts who want large storage capacity.
The latest Barracuda Pro is not just about the storage capacity, it also has a high performance as a hard drive. It has 256 MB of cache, which is rather large for a hard drive. Rather than the usual and cheaper 5,400 rpm large drives, it has 7,200 rpm.
PC gamers and enthusiasts usually want a high storage capacity that they can afford, and this newest hard drive is the best solution for them, according to PC Gamer. Some PC hardware shops like Newegg think that the latest hard drive will sell well, due to its big capacity as its main feature.
Newegg SVP sales and marketing Merle McIntosh said in a statement on Seagate's official website that the Barracuda family has a long history of delivering hard drives that are very reliable for the customers, and the hard drive manufacturers sell it an affordable price. This is a big advantage for their customers who are struggling to keep up with the large amounts of data they are making and demanding every single day.
The Barracuda Pro also uses the Conventional Magnetic Recording feature, and it does not try to seal the drive and fill it with helium or any type of magnetic technology to get that high capacity feature. The hard drive company has said in a statement that it is built on a seven-platter design, which means it might take more power due to the numerous spinning platters.
The company assured that their latest hard drive is one of the more efficient hard drives on the market today. They confirmed that it only consumes 6.8 watts when it is in seeking mode and 4.5 watts when it is idle, which makes it a low-powered hard drive.
The hard drive manufacturer has also announced different types of 10 TB models that cost less, but it will not focus on desktop performance. For the NAS applications, the 10 TB IronWolf is recommended by the manufacturer, with a price of $469.99, while the 10 TB SkyHawk drive will be for video-surveillance usage, which has a price of $459.99. The 10 TB Barracuda Pro has a list price of $534.99.
