Tinder Social is basically Tinder but with more people as the new app allows groups of friend to find other groups for a match so they can hang out together.
The dating app shot up to popularity due to its simple mechanic. Users are shown a profile of someone nearby and they can swipe right if they like them or swipe left if they do not.
Once both users swipe right, they are matched together and are given a chance to chat with each other. From there, they can decide if they want to take it to the next level and meet up personally.
The new Tinder Social performs similar to the original app with the exception that groups of people are now matched with other groups. Tinder Social users can add friends from their Facebook profile to create their group, TechCrunch has learned.
In order for a group to match, only one member has to match with another member of the other group. It could cause problems for the other members of the group if they do not really want to match with someone on the other group.
Once the groups are matched, they can both enter the group chat where all of the members can participate in. They can then decide if they want to head out as a larger group.
Tinder Social groups can also be merged with other groups forming a much larger collective group should they all be matched accordingly, The Next Web reported. The group chat will disappear, however, until the noon of the next day so as not to clutter the app with several chats.
The app was initially tested under beta in Australia several weeks ago. Sean Rad, Tinder cofounder and CEO, said that they have learned a lot during the testing stage and that they are ready to roll out Tinder Social globally.
There are still some changes that have been made and the whole focus of the app is for groups who want to hang out with other groups the night after they have been matched. It is one reason why the chats and matches disappear the next day.
Tinder Social has officially been launched outside Australia. It is now available in the United States and other countries as well.
