The last episode of "Food Wars" ended on a defeat for Takumi when Subaru was able to get the votes of judges. With the situation in hand, some are speculating Soma will avenge for Takumi once he faces Subaru in battle.
It is known that Subaru works his way through his opponents by closely studying their techniques in terms of food preparation. During his battle with Takumi, he already knew how the latter would come up with his dishes.
When Takumi prepared his fried egg and improvised his dish, Subaru already knew his approach would involve reinvention so he prepared the same dish but applied a higher level of improvisation. When Takumi made lemon curd, he did the same thing with the semiffredo dish by adding a more flavorful lemon curd which lifted the dish as a whole. He defeated Takumi by elevating preparation of dishes a notch higher.
The difference between their dishes would only be notable if a person tastes them side by side. Now that Subaru has been proven to be an opponent that should be watched for, fans are wondering how he would fare once he faces Soma in battle.
In a thread posted at Reddit, some fans are wondering if Takumi gets expelled from school. However, a user named HereComsPapaArima clarified that the said character will not be kicked out but will only have to give up his mezzaluna knife to Subaru.
It can be recalled that when Subaru was introduced from the previous season, he showcased his collection of mezzaluna knives which he was able to amass from a number of opponents he previously defeated. Described as honorable and friendly in Shokugeki No Soma Wikia, it seemed that this character unleashed his true personality last episode.
Now that the anime series featured how dangerous Subaru could be, fans are now looking forward for a face-off between him and Soma. They are also expecting Soma would avenge for Takumi's defeat. If the two characters would be in a match, it is expected that Subaru would be imitating Soma's dishes with a tastier flavor.
