Tumblr users will soon see ads on their blogs in order to help keep the site afloat and to generate more ad venue as Verizon acquires its parent company Yahoo.

The free blogging site has recently announced their new advertising program which would place ads on all of their 306 million blogs across the site. One caveat is that the users will not have any profit either for the ad revenue that Tumblr will generate.

Users who think that the ads will interfere with their content can opt out of the ad program. A revenue split is still expected between Tumblr and a blogger in the near future as the program gets tweaked and tested over time, Mashable has learned.

The news comes after Verizon was confirmed to be the bid winner for acquiring the once glorious Yahoo Inc. It has been several years since Yahoo started its decline in the Internet business as Google and Facebook picked up the pace with their superior search engine and social media network, respectively.

Tumblr said that the users who wanted to generate income from the ads will have to undergo a registration process to see whether they are eligible for the partnership, TechCrunch reported. The said program will launch later this year but a solid date has not been announced by the blog.

Users who opt out of the ads can also choose to just enable the ads on some of their blogs. This means that they will have the freedom to choose which blogs they own will display some of Tumblr's ads.

By default, the ads from Tumblr will be turned on. It will allow the company to generate some revenue without having to become a pay to blog site.

Tumblr founder David Karp said: "It's been a busy summer-a new GIF maker, live video, new messaging stuff-and there's a whole lot more on the way. Next up: getting you paid for your work."

Verizon might even have different plans for Tumblr as they acquire parent company Yahoo for $4.8 billion. The wireless company is said to be building their own digital content and ads empire to take on competitors.
