Casting for "Reign" Season 4 is continually in the works, despite the TV show's premiere delay.

According to Game N Guide, production for "Reign" Season 4 has already begun in June. Along with this, Adam Croasdell has been casted to join the TV show to play Bothwell. This character is slated to be Mary's (Adelaide Kane) third husband. Bothwell is said to be a "warm-hearted bad boy" who uses his charm in order to gain Mary's liking.

In addition, another actor has likewise been chosen to play Mary's second husband in "Reign" Season 4. Actor Will Kemp will be joining the cast to play Lord Darnley. According to history, the real-life Lord Darnley is killed a year after getting married, and should the show follow the real events, Lord Darnley will die on-screen too, resulting to Croasdell's character an avenue to woo Mary.

However, despite the fact that production has already started, the production team has decided to further delay "Reign" Season 4's premiere. Originally slated to premiere in the fall of 2016, the show was initially delayed to May 2017 to give way to other CW shows, such as "The Originals," "The 100" and "iZombie."

However, it is likely that "Reign" Season 4 will be further postponed to the fall of next year. This is because the hit HBO TV series "Game of Thrones" is set to premiere in May, thus, may result a drop in "Reign's" viewer ratings.

According to Christian Times, "Reign" Season 4 is slated to premiere either late August or early September as a strategic way to keep their viewership at a decent level. There is a strong competition between "Game of Thrones" and "Reign" due to the fact that both shows are set in the medieval period. However, Reign has a basis upon real-life historical events, while "Game of Thrones" is purely fictional that is based on George RR Martin's book series.

Because of the said similarities, same target market, and not to mention "Game of Thrones" being more popular, "Reign" Season 4 production is cautioning against the former in attracting their viewers.
