“Elder Scroll V: Skyrim” is expected to have a remastered edition sometime this year following an announcement by Bethesda at E3 2016. Seeing the popularity it had with gamers, Bethesday opted for this installment over predecessors “Oblivion” and “Morrowind”.

The time of their release together with the degree of coming up with a remastered edition was likely the reason behind the selection of “Skyrim”, all of which was explained by Bethesday marketing chief Pete Hines, GameSpot reported.

According to Hines, coming out with a remastered version of “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” made the most sense since embarking on one for “Oblivion” was ‘monstrous’ and that the company would be better off developing an entirely new game.

Aside from that, Hines singled out the popularity of the game titles. While all were popular in their own right, Hines singled out how “Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” was just behind another popular game title in “Fallout 4”.

Hence, he reasoned that it made more sense to come up with a remastered version that already had an in-built audience. “Oblivion” didn’t do that bad only that “Skyrim” was more popular.

He also bared that the development team had already ported “Skyrim” to the Xbox One, hinting that work on the remastered edition had already started. In fact he also touched on the mod support angle.

In the same interview, Hines addressed as well questions concerning old mods. The remastered version will be a 64-bit version meaning that any 32-bit would work with some tinkering.

Like “Fallout 4”, Bethesda will continue to work and evolve on mods. Once the remastered edition of “Skyrim” comes out, Hines also shared that it will not include any new content or quests.

With “The Elder Scrolls VI” nowhere in sight, the remastered version of “Skyrim” will likely have to do for now. Bethesda already mentioned previously that they are years away from releasing a possible sequel to the latest game installment.

“The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Remastered” is scheduled to come out on Oct. 28 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. It will retail for $59.99 even if it will be technically a re-release, Attack of the Fanboy reported.
