Fox's supernatural TV series "Sleepy Hollow" surprised fans with its Season 3 finale where its female lead Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) was killed off. Fans were in uproar over the decision to axe heroine from show, especially since she's played a very vital role in the success of Ichabod Crane's endeavors.

At Fox's TCA session, network bosses addressed the issue and discussed how the show will move forward.

"Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie were the spine of the show in a lot of ways, so it was difficult to figure out if it was the right thing to do, to continue or not," David Madden said about renewing the show without Beharie, Deadline reports. "But the producers pitched us an array of new characters and new situations for Crane to get into."

Madden added that there's "a lot of good new stories to tell." The producers of the show are more than certain that a fourth season and more will hit television.

Even co-star Mison was saddened by Beharie's exit. In an interview with The Realistic Optimist, he Beharie's character full credit for setting the ground work on their missions, saying he considers Crane as the sidekick.

"Abbie is the one the audience can relate to so when you're entering this insane world of 'Sleepy Hollow,' you go with Abbie," Mison commented. "She's been the guide and Ichabod is this insane man in the periphery."

Moreover, Mison assured fans that he and Beharie are still good friends in real life.

As to what fans can expect in "Sleepy Hollow" Season 4, Mison teased that Crane is heading to Washington D.C. where he will be joining this mysterious organization that fights evil supernatural entities. Crane will also discover that there are "some dark underground force that is making this surreal turn of events happen."

With Mills gone, there's definitely a new witness in town. "Sleepy Hollow" showrunner Clifton Campbell previously stated that there's "no chance" the new witness will be someone fans have seen on the show, so expect a new faces bringing this important character to life.

"Sleepy Hollow" Season 4 will return midseason on Fox.
