"The Vampire Diaries" fans would know that Caroline Forbes has a rather colorful list of relationships in Mystic Falls. One of the most recent and bittersweet was her relationship with Alaric Saltzman.

In final episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7, Alaric broke up with Caroline, knowing that she was still in love with Stefan. Alaric told Caroline to follow her heart, and she did. Stefan and Caroline got back together after three years of separation.

Alaric not have gotten his happily ever after with Caroline, but the two will remain good friends and close allies in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Speaking with IGN, actress Candice Accola-King teased that Alaric will play a role in saving Damon and Enzo.

"I'm anxious to see how Alaric plays into bringing Damon and Enzo back from the dark side," she said. "And how quick they will be in finding them and waking them up."

Although fans were heartbroken for Alaric, executive producer Julie Plec teased that he might not be single for long "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. "Alaric lost so much and has never been able to find love in a way that can be forever for him," Plec told Buddy TV. "Do we finally give that to him? Or do we keep him for all eternity as the guy who's unlucky in love?"

What's certain is that romance will be in full bloom in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, as they "get to really deliver on relationships completely in a way" that hasn't been done in past seasons.

Maybe Alaric might form a romantic bond with Seline, the new hot nanny he hired. The mysterious character will be played by "Containment" alum Kristen Gutoskie.

Meanwhile, Caroline and Stefan will have another shot at being happy together, albeit the stressful and chaotic situation that they're in. "I'd really like to see Caroline and Stefan enjoy some of that comfort for as long as we can eek it out, before they have to stumble across another obstacle," Plec said.

Interestingly, Paul Wesley spilled the beans for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 premiere, saying it's "hot and steamy right from the get-go."
