The WWE suspended Paige and Alberto Del Rio for 30 days after violating the Wellness Policy for the first time. According to the latest rumors, the suspension was not just more than the violation but may have also stemmed from their real-life relationship.
The suspension of the real-life couple will be effective on Thursday, August 18 and the timing of the announcement is suspicious. Del Rio was the first one suspended followed by Paige, and it was done several hours apart. It was also the two-time Divas champions' 24th birthday.
According to Sporting News, the substance that the couple tested positive is not known at this time but it could be performance-enhancing drugs or recreational drugs. It is noted that it might have been a recreational one since there were several rumors regarding Paige's recent behavior.
The push of both stars was stalled immediately after they went public with their relationship. Del Rio has not been on any feud while Paige barely appeared on television. They were also assigned to different brands on purpose.
Paige was under the microscope for the past couple of months following an altercation after Money in the Bank in Las Vegas. She also got pulled from WWE tour of Australia and New Zealand for some medical issues to his neck and shoulder.
Several reports have indicated that Del Rio is unhappy with his position in the company and he could use his "out clause" in September. According to Daily Wrestling News, Vince McMahon is a fan of his and he wants to re-sign him and give him a push.
However, Triple H does not like Del Rio and he was the one that called for the real-life couple to be separated in the WWE Draft. Apparently, it was a way for Triple H to show Del Rio who is the boss and he has been talking to his father-in-law about not re-signing the former WWE World Champion.
It is also mentioned that Triple H does not like Del Rio's partying and he believes that the Mexican superstar is bad for Paige. The 24-year-old female superstar has all the potential in the world but her development has stalled in the past year.
Nevertheless, the suspension of Paige and Del Rio follows that of Roman Reigns. Brock Lesnar was also caught using drugs but he is a part-time WWE superstar so he was not under the WWE Wellness Policy.
