MTV Video Music Awards mad a comeback on Sunday night with a bang. The awards which kicked off in New York with a star-studded guest list featuring the likes of Beyonce, Nick Jonas, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

According to Mirror, Beyonce ended up been the winner of the best female video in the 33rd annual ceremony. The American singer, songwriter, record producer and actress wowed viewers with a dazzling 15-minute performance.

During the event, Beyonce topped the list by conquering fellow contestants with Kanye proving he really does not love anyone else quite like he loves himself and Drake declaring his love for Rihanna in a heartfelt speech.

Beyonce slipped into another sexy sartorial hit to collect her award, she was up against Adele, Ariana Grande, Sia and Rihanna.

Rihanna received the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award that was presented to her by Drake who said he has been in love with her since he was 22-years-old.

Fans were hoping Drake would get down on one knee after his heartfelt speech. One viewer joked and said that he thought MTV cut out Drake's marriage proposal to Rihanna because it would have been too much for the general public to handle.

Another one shared on Twitter: "Y'all were dressed up for a proposal. Truly a missed opportunity @Drake."

The Video of the year for Formation was won by Queen Bey. Beyonce thanked her beautiful daughter and her incredible husband for all their support. She acknowledged them before the crowd at Madison Square Garden while picking up the Moonman.

She dedicated her award "to the people of New Orleans".

As the event was in progress, producers gave Kanye West, the polarizing pop disrupter the go ahead to do whatever he wanted onstage.

He emerged onstage and immediately started paying tribute to, well, himself.

"I am Kanye West. And that feels really awesome to say, especially this year," West began, in the middle of chants from the audience. 

West was to supposed to premiere his new video, "Fade," but before that he wanted to talk. And talk, and talk, Los Angeles Times reported.

The awards came at climax through Beyonce amazing performance. The superstar, who looked flawless on the red carpet earlier in the night, made an amazing Lemonade album medley complete with high tempo dance routine, which lasted at least 10 minutes.
