Prince Charles is, technically, the next in line after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passes away. However, popular opinion is favoring Prince William as a preferred successor and not the father.

Only 25% of people wanted to see Prince Charles on the throne, as compared a 47% men who opted for Prince William and a whopping 60% women who wanted to younger Prince as their next monarch.

The more astonishing discovery of the poll is that more than two-thirds of the country's population wants to stay wedded to the old monarchy institution. People believe that they are perceived differently with the royal family as the state head. This trend is in line with Britain's desire to exit EU and maintain the monarchy so that they can retain their former glory, Daily Mail reported.

Moreover, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are far more accessible to the people by opening up about their emotions and personal experiences, compared to other members of the royal family that maintains usual uptight demeanor. No wonder the scales have tipped positively in favor of the William and Kate.

According to recent reports, the young royal couple is creating tolerance for new traditions and royal responsibilities. The two have also taken more prominent roles in fulfilling the official duties. Prince William, Prince harry and Duchess Kate have also backed mental health awareness campaigns more recently and also sent little congratulatory notes to team Great Britain at the 2016 Rio Olympics. It is these type of gestures, acknowledging each athlete's hard work, stays in public memory for a long time.
