There is a possibility that "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) actress Nina Dobrev is returning to "The Originals" Season 4 as doppelgangers Katherine Pierce and Tatia. However, the "TVD" actress reportedly turned down the offer to come back in The CW supernatural spin-off and fulfill her connection with Klaus (Joseph Morgan).

Dobrev was reportedly offered to come back to "The Originals" Season 4 by executive producer Julie Plec. However, there are speculations that she declined the offer after learning that her ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder would also be part of the show. Dobrev made a crossover in the show in Season 3 when she played the woman that both Klaus and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) once loved.

"There was a character's name introduced a long time ago in season three in association with Klaus and Elijah," Plec told E! News in an earlier interview. "How they became vampires and a girl that they both loved a long time ago who was the original doppelgänger, Tatia."

Dobrev, Plec and The CW management have yet to comment on the rumors involving the actress in "The Originals" Season 4. Somerhalder (Damon) and Paul Wesley (Stefan), who played the Salvatore brothers are also rumored to be joining the cast of "The Originals" in the new season. If Dobrev and Somerhalder will be returning, it is the first time they will be seen together on the small screen after they parted ways in "TVD."

Aside from the casting rumors, fans are still waiting whether or not the "The Originals" will push through after the next season. Earlier reports revealed that the network ordered shorter episodes that reportedly suggested that the show is coming to an end. The CW president Mark Pedowitz, however, shed some light on the speculation that "The Originals" will not be affected despite its predecessor being cancelled.

"I hope it lives very well on its own," Pedowitz told Dread Central. "I'm hopeful that we will see a fifth year."

Phoebe Tonkin, who plays Hayley in the TV series, explained that the shorter episodes in "The Originals" Season 4 will change the storylines and the pacing of the show. There will be condensed stories in quicker pace. The new season will pick up five years from the Season 3 finale.
