Avid fans of the "Doctors" actress Lee Sung Kyung and "Scarlet Heart Ryeo" cast member Nam Joo Hyuk will soon see the two Korean stars in a new MBC drama.
Lee and Nam have been confirmed to join the cast of MBC's new drama titled "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo," allkpop reported. The "Doctors" star will be playing the titular role in the said drama. She is set to portray the college student and aspiring weightlifter Kim Bok Joo.
The said character has been described as a person who exudes a tough and strong persona. However, Lee's Bok Joo also has a softer and gentler side. Apart from the actress, the "Scarlet Heart Ryeo" star Nam will also join the upcoming MBC drama's cast. The model and actor will portray the character Jung Joon Hyung, a college student who loves swimming.
However, Nam's Joon Hyung suffers from a traumatic experience. It appears that the said character encountered a distressing situation during his first swimming competition that affected Joon Hyung strongly.
Other stars who have joined the upcoming drama include Kyung Soo Jin who will play Joon Hyung's former girlfriend and gymnast Song Si Ho. On the other hand, Lee Jae Yoon has been identified as the MBC series' male lead Jung Jae Yi who is an obesity expert. The actor's character will serve as Bok Joo's avid supporter in the drama.
In other news, the "Doctors" actress celebrated the successful ratings of the SBS medical drama with a free hug event with co-star Yoon Kyun Sang. The two Korean stars gave patients at an Incheon children's hospital free hugs in August, Soompi reported.
The said fan event was part of Lee's promise to hold a special activity should "Doctors" exceed the 20 percent rating's mark. The SBS drama reached 21.3 percent during its 15th episode that aired in early August.
Lee reportedly came up with the idea to hold a meaningful free hug event for hospital patients, as indicated in the same report. The activity was a way for the actress and her co-star Yoon to convey their support to the young patients and their families who may be having a difficult time.
Meanwhile, the upcoming MBC drama "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" is set to expected to premiere in November.
