Will Tyler Lockwood be Damon Salvatore's savior? It appears so as actor Michael Trevino is confirmed to return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

According to an exclusive report by EW, Trevino is back as the hybrid werewolf Tyler and will make his first appearance in episode 3. The last we saw Tyler was when Damon beat him unconscious, but thankfully he survived. It appears Tyler is not holding any grudges against Damon and will, in fact, try to help him.

As Damon's mental state worsens due to his encounter with the creature in the vault in Season 7 finale, Tyler will try to talk some sense into Damon by reminding him of the things and the people that are important in his life. Seeing that Damon and Tyler never really did quite see eye to eye in the past, it will take a lot of effort for Tyler to have Damon listen to him.

Trevino was a regular cast member since the first season of "The Vampire Diaries" but he started out as the arrogant jock. He was fully human until Season 2, when the Lockwood family werewolf curse was revealed and Tyler was beginning to turn. Tyler later developed as a character and became a love interest for Candice King's Caroline Forbes.

He is the first hybrid of Klaus' bloodline. He exited from the show in Season 6, but made a brief appearance in Season 7. He was also in "The Originals."

Trevino is one of the many characters expected to return for "The Vampire Diaries" final season. Nina Dobrev, previously the show's female lead, is in talks to once again reprise her role as Elena Gilbert.

"There are discussions going on with Nina," The CW president Mark Pedowitz said, as quoted by TVLine. "We'd love to have Nina back. She was great for The CW. She was integral for 'The Vampire Diaries'."

He added, "Hopefully she'll be back, but should it not work out, Julie [Plec] has planned a great series finale."

Dobrev made a special participation in the Season 7 finale, where she did a voice recording the episode.

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 premieres on Oct. 21 on The CW.
