"State of Decay 2" will be larger than its predecessor. It will also have the Xbox Play Anywhere feature.

Undead Labs CEO Jeff Strain told IGN in an exclusive interview about the upcoming game's new details. He confirmed that the second video game will be substantially larger than its predecessor. He did not give further details about the map size, regions, and any other related information due to the developers not ready to talk about it.

Strain revealed that a lot of "State of Decay" players have been clear about what they would want for the upcoming sequel. They wanted it to be bigger, better than the first one and they want their friends to play with them and the game developers intend to deliver on those.

The multiplayer's primary goal is to have other players bring an interesting new dynamic to the situation, Strain said. The other players would not just be able to take over or ruin the experience when they join the multiplayer feature since it was not meant to be a PVP game. They can be hostile and affect the player's world and the situation, but they cannot directly attack them or their community members.

One way to make the other players hostile is to take advantage of making noise and let the zombies come towards the opponents' community. Their characters might end up getting killed because they could not deal with the player who created the noise. This could backfire on the player too if they are not careful and they might end up getting killed permanently.

Strain said that the main focus of the game franchise is consequences and they wanted to make sure that the other players are just more than just an addition to the gameplay. They want them to become a part of the story based on the playthrough of the main player.

Players will not be forced to play with their friends with the mechanics that encourage teamwork and cooperation. They will be able to do whatever they want in the game. Those who want to play on single play might not be as effective on their own, but at least they have the freedom to do so.

According to the official website of Xbox, "State of Decay 2" will be able to enjoy the Xbox Play Anywhere feature. They can pre-order the digital game, and it is theirs to play on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, but this will not apply for the physical release.
