During a press interview for "Goblin," Kim reassured viewers that she will try to make a better job at writing more alluring and complex female-male characters for the tvN drama. This comes after she has received remarks about how she portrays her male characters versus her female characters.

"When I had a meeting with Kim Go-Eun, I told her that this drama would be different than the previous ones," All Kpop quoted Kim as saying before a predominantly Korean crowd. She added that all of the characters in the tvN drama would definitely stand out.

"Goblin," also known as "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God," kicked off its run on Dec. 02 with an average audience share of 6.7 percent. It also topped the Contents Power Index (CPI) with far more mentions on online platforms than any of its rivals.

The tvN drama took the top spot for the first week of December with a recorded 7,449 points. It was then followed by SBS' "The Legend of the Blue Sea" garnering only 4,315 points, as per CJ E&M, as cited by The Kpop Herald.

Following its successful premiere, Gong Yoo, who plays an immortal goblin and protector of souls named Kim Shin, posted a message filled with gratitude and promises on his fan café. He admitted he was more anxious about the tvN drama than a movie premiere, expressing gratitude toward his fans at home and abroad for cheering him on.

Gong then thanked writer Kim, director Lee Eung-Bok and all the staff members for making such a wonderful production. In reference to the scene where his character all of a sudden shows up whenever Eun Tak (Kim Go Eun) blows out a candle, the Hallyu star concluded his message stating, "And each of you holds up a candle."
