Damien Chazelle's "La La Land" is poised to dominate the 74th Golden Globe Awards, clinching several nominations and getting the nods of critiques.
The film's leading stars, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, are both up for acting awards, while Chazelle is gunning for the best director recognition.
"La La Land" is likewise nominated for best comedy or musical film.
Barely a month away from the announcement of winners, the movie is already winning critiques and viewers' approval. It recently won best picture at the Critics' Choice Award.
Review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, meanwhile, gave the film a 95 percent rating based on more than 120 reviews.
The movie, which also stars Rosemarie DeWitt and John Legend, tells the story of a pianist (Gosling) and an aspiring actress (Stone) who met and fell in love in the city of Los Angeles. It opened in the U.S. last week, scooping up a record-breaking per-screen average of $171,000, according to The Guardian.
The buzz hovering above the dreamy drama-romance musical is leading many to think that the film is poised to go all the way to the Oscars.
"Bookies are increasingly considering the film a shoo-in to triumph in the best comedy or musical category, and currently quoting 1/2 odds for it to take best picture at next year's Oscars," wrote The Guardian.
Some, however, remain skeptic and say that it is still premature to predict whether the film could achieve that.
Movie critic Kyle Smith at the New York Post cited reasons why it might not win the Oscars' best picture award.
"Early frontrunners hardly ever go all the way for the same reason the horse leading at the first turn of the Kentucky Derby hardly ever wins," Smith wrote, adding that the best picture trophy is more likely to be clinched by "small, sober and perfect 'Manchester by the Sea.'"
