As much as "wait for Vega" remains the rallying cry of AMD enthusiasts, the recent teases by AMD itself have exhibited that the upcoming Radeon Vega graphic cards will be much powerful than NVidia's best. In fact, the likes of NVidia GeForce GTX 1080 and the GTX 1070 will be outperformed colossally.
Radeon Vega cards are projected to come with terrific speeds, super-fast RAM, efficient pipeline management, smart scheduling of tasks, and next-gen compute engines. A combination of these improvements will further translate to high performance, giving over 60 frames per second (FPS) at ultra-settings.
In a recent preview with journalists in December 2016, AMD played 2016's magnificent "Doom" on a Radeon Vega 10 graphics card at ultra-settings. The card exhibited a splendid performance, floating in between 60 and 70 FPS.
Even NVidia's monstrous GTX 1080 cannot reach 60 FPS at ultra settings, according to Tech Spot's tests. A couple of other demonstrations in the recent weeks by AMD have clearly substantiated this claim.
For instance, at the same time when AMD's Ryzen CPU was unveiled to the world during the New Horizon Livestream, the company demonstrated "Star Wars: Battlefront" running on a PC that paired Ryzen and Vega. The set maxed out the 4K display's 60 FPS at ultra settings.
The GTX 1080, nevertheless, failed the test, only achieving a few points shy of 50 FPS. In another case, a deleted leak in the "Ashes of Singularity" database during last December revealed a GPU with a device ID "687F:C1."
The GPU surpassed many GTX 1080s in benchmark results and surprisingly, the Device ID was later seen in the frame rate overlay during AMD's Radeon Vega preview. This confirms that 687F:C1 is Radeon Vega 10.
While Radeon Vega is not in its final form yet, it is still early to presume that AMD will regain its superiority in the graphics cards market. But still, as things seem to be, Vega is certainly competitive on the graphics performance front.
AMD claims it made Radeon Vega to work smarter and not just harder, but enthusiasts will have wait to see if the card lives up to the hype. Meanwhile, have a look at Vega's benchmarks in the clip below:
