Here are the 5 biggest changes that fans would see when the new season returns:

1. The plot of "Twin Peaks" new season has been revealed.

The synopsis of Mark Frost's new book "The Secret History of Twin Peaks" reveals the first story of Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), who was possessed by evil Bob after surviving the Black Lodge/Red Room. The story would pick up where a female FBI agent would receive a box of huge dossier.

The identity of the female FBI remains unknown. She would search who compiled the dossier and all the mysteries related to Twin Peaks. The agent would soon discover the mysteries surrounding "Twin Peaks" residents and the investigative reports from Agent Cooper.

2. A couple of original characters in Season 1 will be back, including the dead.

"Twin Peaks" revival will see the return of original characters in the story, including the ones who died. It was previously announced that Sheryl Lee, who played murdered Laura Palmer and Maddy Ferguson and Laura's father Lelend (Ray Wise) will be back. It is not clear if they will return as spirits or in flashbacks, Nerdist reported.

Original cast who will be seen again in the revival include Kyle McLachlan, Sherilyn Fenn, Madchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, David Duchovny, Miguel Ferrer, Grace Zabriskie, Peggy Lipton, Wendy Robie, Russ Tamblyn and the late Catherine E. Coulson.

3. A lot of new characters will be introduced while a few of the original characters will not be returning.

The "Twin Peaks" revival is coming with a bunch of new characters. In April 2016, Showtime released the entire 217 new characters, who will be included in the series reboot. Notable newbies include Ashley Judd, Michael Cera, Trent Reznor, Jessica Szohr, Jane Levy and Richard Chamberlain.

Although almost the original cast will be back, a few of them are not returning, including Lara Flynn Boyle, Joan Chen, Piper Laurie and Michael Ontkean.

4.  "Twin Peaks" reboot is only for one season.

"Before I said I wasn't going to revisit it, and I did," Business Insider quoted Lynch as saying during the Television Critics Association press tour on Jan. 9, Monday. "You never say no. But right now there's no plans for anything more."

5.  The spin-off film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" is an essential viewing prior to the  "Twin Peaks" revival.

Series creator David Lynch recommended that people interested to see the new season should watch the original series first and also the spin-off. "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me" talks about Laura Palmer's last seven days before she was murdered, which has something to do with the revival.
