With the unexpected death of two of its major characters, "The Walking Dead" Season 7 opened with the series' most horrific episode yet. Glenn Rhee, who had been a cast member since the debut season, had the most brutal and iconic death in the history of the zombie apocalypse series when the vicious sheriff and Saviors leader Negan marched in and used his baseball bat Lucille to smash his head until his eyeballs popped out.

What Glenn had to go through in the premiere episode of the season was something Glenn actor Steven Yeun will certainly never live down. On Jan. 10, a photo of the actor recreating the death of the fan-favorite character was posted on Twitter with the caption "not again Glenn."

Since last year, the South Korean-born American actor has been making rounds at the convention circuit, so no one can tell when the said photo was taken. The image was reportedly taken at a convention, where one fan provided the actor eye-popping glasses and a Lucille bat. With both props in hand, Yeun recreated Glenn's iconic death scene.

Over 17 million viewers around the world tuned in to watch the premiere episode of "The Walking Dead" Season 7 and witness Glenn's death live, according to Comicbook. Despite the sharp drop in the show's ratings since its debut season, "The Walking Dead" remains as the most watched show on cable TV.

The death of Glenn from Robert Kirkman's comics, on which the TV series is largely based, was very accurately adapted on television. The 100th issue of the comics followed Negan as he toyed around with Rick and his group until he finally decided to kill Glenn by bashing in his skull. At that point in the comics, Abraham was already dead, so it was only Glenn who experienced the wrath of Lucille.

Meanwhile, the episode reportedly received several complaints over its violence. To address the issue, broadcasting regulator Ofcom came to the defense of the show, saying that FOX had made the right call in editing the episode to cut some of the goriest moments.

FOX UK told Digital Spy, "As FOX Networks Group is regulated by Ofcom, we have a duty of care to ensure all our programs broadcast adhere to the parameters of the Ofcom Broadcasting code." The network told the publication that they had heavily edited the episode to cut down the moments Negan was shown whacking his victims' heads.
