Undoubtedly a part of many people's life is the television set which serves as a great company when one chills in his or her room after a day's work or during weekends. This year promises several great stories on TV shows that are most anticipated.

Some of shows this year will have their premiere while others are returning for another season. Here are 10 TV shows to watch in 2017:

1. "Discovery"

"Discovery" on CBS All Access will premiere in May with the main cast already in place. Former showrunner Bryan Fuller is no longer on board but he gave showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg a firm handle on the story and the characters, according to Complex.

2. "Game of Thrones" 

The multi-Emmy award winning "Game of Thrones" will return for Season 7 on June 25, which is shorter, penultimate and can be putting the final pieces in place. Season 6 ended with Lena Headey's Cersei Lannister finally on the Iron Throne, Maisie Williams' Arya Stark was heading back home and Kit Harington's Jon Snow was declared King in the North.

3. "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver"

HBO's "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" will return for Season 4 in February. The show has produced carefully researched and engaging topics. With Donald Trump as president, Oliver can become one of the popular culture's most important voices.

4. "Legion"

"Legion" will premiere on Feb. 8 on FX, and it will follow the story of Dan Steven's David Haller, Professor Xavier's son who is among the world's most powerful mutants. The casting has Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Bill Irwin and possibly Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy as Professor X.

5. "Planet Earth II"

"Planet Earth II" starring David Attenborough on BBC America will be back for the second season on Jan. 28. This nature documentary starring David Attenborough with Hans Zimmer responsible for the soundtrack has a swooping and gorgeous cinematography of the planet. Viewers can make small changes on their routine to help out the environment, or even donate to Greenpeace.

6. "Snowfall"

FX's "Snowfall"will premiere this year starring Damson Idris, Carter Hudson, DeRay Davis, Billy Magnussen, Sergio Peris-Mencheta and Emily Rios. This part history, part crime drama by "The People v. O.J. Simpson" director John Singleton will explore the events when crack cocaine hit Los Angeles in the early '80s.

7. "Stranger Things"

Netflix's sci-fi series "Stranger Things" was 2016's surprise of the year. It will be back for Season 2 in July. The first season wrapped up so well but there are still questions that need answers.

8. "The Magicians"

Syfy's "The Magicians" will be back for Season 2 on Jan. 25. This adaptation of the bestselling fantasy series of Lev Grossman will have the second season with the heroes still struggling against the Beast. The show is a twisted adult version of the "Narnia" series and "Harry Potter," according to Variety.

9. "The Path"

Also returning on Jan. 25 is "The Path" on Hulu for Season 2. The first season was about a cult and the gradual defection of one of his followers.

10. "Veep"

HBO's "Veep" will return for Season 6 after an equally successful Season 5 with showrunner David Mandel who took the reins from Armando Iannucci. This year's season will pick up with the now ex-Commander-in-Chief Selina Meyer played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who will be adjusting to civilian life.
