Players of the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre were left wondering why they were given such freebie. Moreover, the free treat was dished out directly by Blizzard and their reason for the said move has got players puzzled.

One of the most probable reasons for such could be that some of the players weren't able to acquire the game prior to this. Others speculate that these players may have tried out the free demo version of the title in the past, though these theories have yet to be confirmed, according to VG24/7.

As aforementioned, "Wings of Liberty" is the first downloadable content for "StarCraft 2." The game segment was sold like pancakes by the time it was released. In just a couple of days, it has sold 1.5 million copies making it a commercial triumph for Blizzard, Gaming Bolt reported.

Three years after its release, Blizzard then rolled out the "Heart of the Swarm" segment that brought in new troops and multiplayer tweaks into the main game. The DLC focused on the Zerg colony and Sarah Kerrigan's revenge against the Terran Dominion.

In 2015, a standalone expansion came out dubbed as "Legacy of the Void." This time around, the DLC showcased the alien race of Protoss with Artanis as the game's protagonist. Just like its predecessor, it also contained game tweaks and fixes alongside the inclusion of new troops in the game.

As of late, the "Nove Covert Ops" is the latest DLC in the game that chipped in new weaponry for the rest of the units in the game. The add-on comprises of nine missions that heavily focused on tactics, though base building elements are still intact.
