The midseason finale of "Teen Wolf" Season 6 featured several exciting storylines that included Stiles' (Dylan O'Brien) long-awaited return to Beacon Hills and the start of his romantic relationship with Lydia (Holland Roden). With the MTV series heading towards its finale, it is still unclear whether the "Maze Runner" actor will be able to reprise his role in the remaining ten episodes.

When "Teen Wolf" Season 6 premiered in mid-November 2016, the MTV series' plot revolved around Stiles, his Ghost Riders abduction and how his disappearance changed the lives of loved ones and friends. Given O'Brien's earlier on-set accident while filming the "Maze Runner" sequel, coupled with other filming commitments, the said plot gave the show's writing team the opportunity to still incorporate his iconic character without requiring too much screen time from the actor.

Despite appearing in the current season's winter finale, O'Brien's participation in the bottom half of "Teen Wolf" Season 6 has yet to be confirmed. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Jeff Davis revealed that Stiles' future in the MTV series "remains to be seen."

At this point, it is also unclear whether the actor will only appear in some of the upcoming episodes. The recent romantic development between Stiles and Lydia is also not an assurance that viewers will see the two characters together as the supernatural show nears its series finale, according to Davis.

Meanwhile, Stiles and Lydia's new romance will also complicate the two characters' friendship with Malia (Shelley Hennig). Davis told Hypable that Stiles will always have a special place in Malia's heart as her first love and first human romance.

However, the showrunner teased that Malia might be able to find another chance at happiness and love. Davis stated, "We've always been the proponents of, 'You love more than once in life.' So, we'll have to see."

"Teen Wolf" Season 6 is expected to return to the small screens in summer 2017. Watch one of the memorable scenes from the midseason finale below:
