"Destiny" has proven a major success since it launched back in 2014. Developer Bungie and the publishers at Activision are actively working on the sequel, which has now been confirmed to release sometime in the Fall this year.

"Full 'Destiny' sequel in 2017 to broaden the franchise's global reach," Activision confirmed in their most recent financial report. "Which along with follow-on content plans, sets the stage for growth."

The game is listed in the report as one of the most profitable games from Activision. This particular devision also includes the "Call of Duty" franchise and "Skylanders" series. The other divisions include Blizzard and the recently acquired King.

It is still not certain if "Destiny 2" will be a proper sequel, taking place in the same world or same narrative as the first game, or if it will be a full reboot. Regardless of which direction the game is going it is confirmed to feature a fully fleshed-out narrative instead of just focusing on multiplayer action.

"Destiny 2" will feature a "great cinematic story" which will be a real focus for the game, according to Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg during the company's financial conference (via Dual Shockers). He also stated it will have a "great cast of memorable, relatable characters."

Hirshberg also stated that the developers are working on great methods to make the sequel more accessible to casual players. At the same time, the game will not lose the qualities that make the core gamers love the series.

Like the first game the sequel will feature downloadable content. However, Hirshberg explained that they are working on a smart approach when it comes to additional content but did not further elaborate what this means.

It should be noted that while billed as a sequel, neither Hirshberg nor the financial report refer to the game as "Destiny 2." This may indicate it will feature a subtitle or could be set as a prequel or full reboot.
