Beloved characters of the Freeform series "Shadowhunters" Season 2 will soon face darker days in upcoming episodes. Latest spoiler news teased of Clary's (Katherine McNamara) crucial role in Valentine's (Alan Van Sprang) plan given her ability to activate the Soul Sword.
Clary and Simon (Alberto Rosende) may be basking in the afterglow of their new romance but things will turn dark for Valentine's daughter. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McNamara shared that her character will soon go through a difficult journey.
With the realization that Valentine can use the Soul Sword to summon and control demons, as well as her link to the said weapon, Clary will become devastated with the said the knowledge, according to the actress. Despite trying to do good deeds and fighting alongside other Shadowhunters, Clary will have a difficult time dealing with the fact that she has a darker side.
McNamara stated, "It's another blow to Clary ... She's finding out that she could be the key to the ultimate evil. It's fighting that darkness within."
However, the situation might bring her closer to Jace (Dominic Sherwood). Given that her alleged brother also went through a similar situation, he may serve as a confidant to Clary while she goes through the same journey.
Jace previously joined Valentine's army after the said villain revealed their alleged father-and-son relationship. Featured in the earlier episodes of "Shadowhunters" Season 2, he eventually left Valentine to reconnect with some of his friends.
Meanwhile, showrunner Todd Slavkin teased some of Clary's difficulties in an earlier interview with TVLine. He mentioned that the said protagonist will soon embark on a "powerful [and] emotional journey."
The death of Clary's mother Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) also served as a catalyst to her transformation as a stronger heroine. Slavkin explained that it was a plot twist that they added to "push her character ... in a really compelling manner."
