Marvel recently announced that "Shattered Empire" is the first entry for the set of prequel that links the "Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of Jedi" to the upcoming film "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens." It was followed by the announcement of a novel that will help fans direct the path to the film's seventh installment.

Fans are familiar with the destruction of the second Death Star as well as the death of Darth Vader. With the development of a new government, the query is whether there will be eternal peace or not. "Star Wars: Aftermath" might give fans the answers.

"Star Wars: Aftermath" is the newest addition to the "Star Wars" franchise, contributed by Del Rey. It is set to be authored by Chuck Wendig, who is known for works such as "Blackbirds," "Mockingbird," and "Under the Empyrean Sky."

New cast of characters will be introduced in the novel, without neglecting the fan favorites from the previous films, Coming Soon revealed. The novel will mark a strong relevance to the upcoming film, since fans will be encountering names and places that will be featured in the upcoming film.

"Star Wars: Aftermath" author Chuck Wendig also shared his thoughts about being asked to write the novel in the Star Wars website. For the author, "Star Wars" opened the world of writing and his love of storytelling. He became an avid fan of the franchise, from the toys to the books. Wendig said that it is a great and powerful privilege to become involved with the "Star Wars" universe.

Meanwhile, the cast members of the film will include Max von Sydow, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Kenny Baker, Anthony Daniels, Peter Meyhew, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill.

The film is set to be piloted by J.J. Abrams, along with Kathleen Kennedy as producer and Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas as co-writers.

The highly expected film "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" is slated to be released in theaters and cinemas in the United States on December 18 this year.
