Nina Dobrev is officially leaving the "Vampire Diaries" as she confirmed it on her Instagram account that the sixth season of the show will be her last.

A lot of fans of the show and the actress herself are asking why she would be leaving the long-running series and the real reason behind it was revealed to E! News. According to the report, it has been the plan for quite a time now and it was not at all sudden. Also, it was the choice of Dobrev to leave the show since she really wants to get some rest from the acting world and reclaim her freedom and be able to look at other opportunities being offered to her.

Last August, Dobrev reportedly did not sign for the seventh season of the show as she was hesitant of continuing with the show although her co-stars Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder already signed up for it. According to Juie Plec, the boss of TVD, she feared that Dobrev's decision would be final since October of last year as she pointed out that it hurt her back then because it's a sad move if it ends up happening.

Plec said back then that they want to make the sixth season of the show the best possible season that they ever made whether or not someone decides to leave. Plec added that if ever a character dies or if they live and move on to a happier life then the challenge for them is to make the next season newer and more exciting even without a character that people grew to love.

Dobrev leaving the show has set Twitterverse on a frenzy as the statement that Dobrev is the soul of the show "Vampire Diaries" trended since last night. However, the show will still continue and let's see what is to happen next and what the writers have in store for the fans of the hit series.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter also shared in their statement that Dobrev's co-star Michael Trevino might also be planning to leave the show. According to Plec, Trevino is also a beloved member of the show but his character Tyler Lockwook will always remain as part of the show although he also wants to explore new opportunities.
