In the beginning of "The Following" Season 3, Mark Gray (Sam Underwood) acts as the main villain forcing Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) to admit that they executed Luke and Lily Gray (Connie Nielsen).
As the plot thickens, Theo (Michael Ealy) is introduced as the best student of Arthur Strauss (Gregg Henry). Theo later kills Strauss, and Hardy goes after him. Theo gave Hardy a reason to reconnect with Joe Carroll in "The Following" Season 3, Episode 5.
In the latest episode ("The Following" Season 3, Episode 9), Theo offers a partnership deal to Joe Carroll, but the latter declines. Joe reminds Theo that Ryan is his target. It is later revealed that Joe is improvising a weapon, presumably something he could use on his execution day.
"The Following" Season 3, Episode 9 also reveals that Hardy's live-in girlfriend Gwen (Zuleikha Robinson) is pregnant. This develops after she nearly gives up on her relationship with Hardy, whose life is getting increasingly more complicated.
Diane Neal may appear in the next new episode of "The Following" Season 3 as law enforcement or a poser with connections to Theo. Diane earlier teased her followers on Twitter. She posted a photo of a badge and a gun, asking her fans to guess the show where she's headed.
Michael Ealy also posted this Instagram photo, saying in the caption that he and Diane have been working together for 10 years now.
Also in "The Following" Season 3, Episode 9: Max (Jessica Stroup) nearly finds out that Tom (Gbenga Akinnagbe) has been spying on her using a laptop he got from Mark Gray and his cohorts. She discovers the laptop is inside the FBI building and fears they may have another mole within the feds.
"The Following" Season 3, Episode 10, titled "Evermore," will air on April 27 on FOX.
