"Joni is not in a coma," read the statement on the singer's official website. "Joni is still in the hospital - but she comprehends, she's alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected."

The folk icon was admitted in hospital on March 31 after being found unconscious in her home. It was reported earlier that the "Both Sides Now" hit maker regained consciousness on the ambulance ride and is currently under intensive care.

TMZ reported yesterday that the singer's close friend Leslie Morris has filed for obtaining a conservatorship over the musician and her affairs since she is in coma and unresponsive.

The report by the tabloid turned out to be misleading as the document which was depicted was actually the certification that in the wake of absence of 24-hours of medical care, Morris will make medical decision on the singer's behalf when she leaves hospital. The singer reportedly has no close family member who will step up to the role.

The Canadian singer released her 17th and last album in 2007 often describes herself as a "painter derailed by circumstance".
