The Oculus Rift virtual reality headset may be released in 2016, not later in 2015, if the statements of Oculus Founder Palmer Luckey and Facebook Chief Financial Officer Dave Wehner are anything to go by.

"The company has made a lot of changes to our roadmap and we've expanded a lot of the ambition we had around the product," Luckey said in SXSW conference last month, where VR was a blowout success.

In Facebook's latest quarterly earnings call, CFO David Wehner confirmed that the project is still in its development stage. Facebook agreed to purchase oculus in 2014.

Luckey has however made it clear that there is nothing wrong with the Rift project. He made it clear that nothing was horribly wrong, according to Latin Post.

"I can say that nothing is going horribly wrong. Everything is going horribly right," Luckey said.

However, it is quite obvious that HTC and Valve's Vive Virtual Reality Headset, and Samsung's Gear VR for the Galaxy S6 may see fruition in 2015.

Another big name in the VR domain is Sony's Project Morpheus, the highly-anticipated VR combo that comes with with the PlayStation 4.

Richard Marks, PlayStation R&D senior director, expressed views in a recent interview that showed that Sony has nailed the headset and software experience with Morpheus.  The Playstation-inventor has removed many frustrations associated with currently-available headsets on the market.

Oculus had worked with Samsung while developing the Gear VR. The Rift project has gone through a number of postponements. While acquiring Oculus for $2 billion Luckey had stated that 2015-release of Rift was on the cards, according to The Christian Times.

The VR headsets gained immense popularity in last month's SXSW conference in Austin, Texas last year. The hullabaloo about Oculus Rift's release has been on the web in full swing since then.

The VR enthusiasts will have to wait a little more than anticipated.
