McAvoy had played Charles Xavier with a full head of hair in the 2011film "X-Men: First Class" and the 2014 film "X-Men: Days of Future Past," in which his character met the future version of himself, Professor X, played by Patrick Stewart.

A BA Acting programme graduate, McAvoy recently announced he is funding a 10-year scholarship programme at Glasgow's Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), whose alumni include Alan Cumming, Tom Conti, Robert Carlyle and David Tennant.

"I see tons of young people who are vastly intelligent," Express quoted McAvoy as saying. "But because they have this ingrained humility, it gets in the way of them expressing themselves and showing how brilliant they are."

Hitting theaters on May 27, 2016, "X-Men Apocalypse" is directed by Singer and written by Simon Kinberg. The story is set in the 1980s.

Joining McAvoy as Professor X in "X-Men: Apocalypse"  are Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse , Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy, Olivia Munn as Psylocke, andJennifer Lawrence as Mystique.

Lawrence has announced "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be her last film in the "X-Men" franchise.

Meanwhile, Sony is reportedly paying Lawrence $20 million for the upcoming film "Passengers," which will also star "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Chris Pratt, the Hollywood Reporter has learned.
