Samsung was quick to offer a fix for its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge after admitting that both models are having performance problems.

A week after the announcement, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 users are now beginning to receive the patch, the GSM Arena reported. Though most owners are yet to receive it and its official "G920FXXU1AODG" firmware change log has remained vague, GSM Arena has confirmed that the changes offer a substantial boost in performance.

The reason by which one of the most powerful smartphones is updating is to fix the way the Galaxy S6 lineup is handling memory. The phones do not free up RAM from apps that are not in use. Depending on the number of apps installed on the device, through time, it will get slower. Eventually, the apps will start to crash one by one. While it is possible to close the apps individually from the menu, neither this nor complete reboot works well.

The newest firmware has been released so all users should automatically get it. However, those that are aiming to have it as soon as possible could manually check the device's settings. There, they could go about by proceeding to "about device," "software update," and "update now."

Meanwhile, a number of users are attributing the issue to Google, instead of the mother company Samsung.

Android Lollipop has gone through memory management issues since its launch in October 2014 and the company's attempt to fix them through Android 5.0.1, 5.0.2 and 5.1 has failed. A potential game changer could be the Android 5.1.1, Forbes announced.
