The genre of the said film blends Gareth Edward's 2014 action-adventure science-fiction "Godzilla" and Sofia Coppola's 2003 drama film "Lost in Translation," as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The storyline centers on an ordinary woman named Gloria, who opts to return to her hometown after losing both her job and her husband-to-be.

The plot advances with news reports about a giant lizard that poses a threat to the city of Tokyo. At this point, Gloria slowly recognizes her odd link to the incidents using her mental powers. Gloria's task is to know the relationship between her "insignificant" presence to the world's future.

Aside from "Colossal," Hathaway is set to appear in Nancy Meyers' comedy film "The Intern," James Bobin's adventure-fantasy film "Alice Through the Looking Glass," and the Brad Ingelsby drama thriller "The Burning Woman."

Vigalondo is set to helm the film while Voltage Pictures will fully finance the upcoming movie and will launch it to the foreign financiers in Cannes.

As per Cinema Blend, the Spanish filmmaker has wanted to actualize the concept since 2014, as he is a fan of monster film involving a "guy in a rubber suit." Vigalondo also added that he wants to be that person in the suit, wreaking havoc in a big city.

The director also said that the film is his "most ambitious script" at this point. He also added that Hathaway starring in the film, along with his crew, exceed his "craziest expectations."

Garret Basch will executive produce the upcoming film along with Vigalondo.

Very little is known about the film while no information has been announced about Hathaway's co-stars and the film's release date, as the film is still in its early development. At this point, fans have to wait for further updates.
