Cannes Film Festival 2015 seems to be all about women power whethe it comes to more female directors this year or the overflow of women orientated movies.
For only second time in its history, the prestigious opening slot of the movie fest was given to a woman directed movie. "Le Tête Haute" aka Standing Tall opened the festival on May 13, The Guardian reported. The fest will end on May 24.
Total 19 movies will be screened during these das, which will in turn compete for the Palme d'Or, the best film of the year. Here are the list of the top 5 favourite movies which are leading in the race of the award as well as high on popularity meter.
1. Todd Haynes' "Carol"
Based on the novel "The Price of Salt" by Patricia Highsmith, the movie is about the story of a young female department-store clerk who falls for an older, married woman. The movie has Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, playing the lead roles of lesbian partners.
2. Asif Kapadia's "Amy"
The movie is a docu-series based on the rise and fall of late singer Amy Winehouse. Although the movie is compiled with the assistance of the Winehouse family using old tapes and footage of the singer, who died in 2011 aged 27. Before its release, Winehouse's father said that the movie misleading and wrongful portrayal of his daughter's life, BBC reported. Check out the trailer of the movie here.
3. Natalie Portman's "A Tale Of Love And Darkness"
The actress' debut directorial project is based on the true life of Israeli writer and journalist Amos Oz. Her memoir, on which the movie is based, was translated into 28 languages and more than a million copies have been sold worldwide to date.
4. Woody Allen's "Irrational Man"
This is one of the highly anticipated and much talked about movie of this year's festival. Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone are laying the role of philosophy professor in an existential crisis and a student who gives him a new lease of life. Catch the first look of the movie here.
5. Matthew McConaughey's "Sea of Trees"
The movie has a conventional plot of getting lost and rediscovering. The film revolves around the a suicidal American, who befriends a Japanese man and together they search the way out in a Mt. Fuji forest.
