"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" lead star Dylan O'Brien recently unveiled exciting details about the sequel's plot and setting.
In an interview with MTV News, O'Brien revealed that there will be major changes in the adaptation that may surprise fans.
According to him, the second installment was filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the former home of the now debunked series, "Breaking Bad." "Maze Runner" was previously filmed in Louisiana.
In order to make the setting of the sequel believable, O'Brien shared that the production staff poured sand all over the location.
Meanwhile, the actor also revealed that all of the underground scenes featured in the movie were shot inside an abandoned mall in New Mexico.
The "Teen Wolf" star then went on to talk about the plot of "Maze Runner: Scorch Trials."
According to him, the film will not look exactly like the one told in the book because director Wes Ball wanted fans to see something bigger and better, according to Movie News Guide.
In a recent interview, Ball also talked about the lighting that was used in the movie. According to him, since most scenes from "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" were shot in the dark, they had to use flashlights and they carried it with them everywhere.
Additionally, the second installment was created to be different from the "Maze Runner" because the story will focus greatly on the concept of "being scared."
Meanwhile, James Dashner, the author of the book, confirmed that "Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" will be different from his book because Ball added more scenes to it.
"Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" is slated for release in the United States on Sept. 18.
